He’ll Use It!

It’s true that God really will use your occupation to glorify Him. Isn’t that amazing? I wonder how God can use us on some of our jobs that we have. You know, what good is some of the work we do when it comes to His Kingdom? But thankfully, God has given us many examples to show us how He does use our work.

Matthew had a profession that people despised. He was a tax collector. Yet, Jesus chose Him to be a disciple, and his practice of record keeping was beneficial for him to have the ability to record the story of Jesus. Do you think He saw that coming?

Matthew 9:9 As Jesus was walking along, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at his tax collector’s booth. “Follow me and be my disciple,” Jesus said to him. So Matthew got up and followed him.

Also, let’s take Peter, Peter the fisherman. There was a time when Jesus went to the temple and had to pay a temple tax. Who better to send out to catch a fish that would have a coin in it than Peter? Thus, the tax was paid by that coin.

Matthew 17: 24-27 When they had come to Capernaum, those who received the temple tax came to Peter and said, “Does your Teacher not pay the temple tax?” He said, “Yes.” And when he had come into the house, Jesus anticipated him, saying, “What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth take customs or taxes, from their sons or from strangers?”

Peter said to Him, “From strangers.” Jesus said to him, “Then the sons are free. Nevertheless, lest we offend them, go to the sea, cast in a hook, and take the fish that comes up first. And when you have opened its mouth, you will find a piece of money; take that and give it to them for Me and you.”

Now, if no job is too small or insignificant to God, why do we think they are? If God can find purpose in our work, why can’t we? If God can use it, who would I be to say otherwise?
