The Tale of Two Wives

Interesting enough, we wives get caught up in the command to submit to our husbands and neglect how much the Bible tells of our influence on them. What do I mean? Let’s read Proverbs 12:4.

A worthy wife is her husband’s joy and crown; a shameful wife saps his strength.

There are two wives here. The first wife is a worthy wife. A worthy wife is her husband’s joy and crown. A crown represents triumph and honor. A worthy wife is an honor to have, and especially to be.

The second wife is a shameful wife. A shameful wife saps his strength or as the King James Version says is as rottenness in his bones. A shameful wife is in a sense, a sickness or illness to her husband.

So what does this one verse tell us about being a wife?

1. That after God’s influence, the man we submit to is most greatly influenced by us.

2. We play a big role in making or breaking our husbands.

3. There are two types of wives out there, we can choose which we want to be.

Choose to be worthy. You will honor God, strengthen your husband, and bless your marriage.
